We Took Our Own Branding Photos

Having a consistent and professional image is key!

Sometimes, the best team is the one you already have – or even just yourself and a reliable tripod!

As Erika and I continue to build our photography business, having a consistent and professional image is key. And while we spend our days behind the lens capturing the stories of others, sometimes you need to turn that lens inward!

Recently, we were reflecting on the photos we currently use for our company branding – the ones you see on our website and social media. It might surprise you to learn that those very images were a product of our own DIY photoshoot right here in our studio!

The Power of In-House Creativity

It wasn't about hiring another photographer or coordinating schedules. Instead, it was a testament to the power of teamwork (and a trusty tripod!). We took turns photographing each other, understanding instinctively how to pose and light for the best results.

Tech to the Rescue: Our Remote Shutter Solution

But the real magic happened when we harnessed the technology at our fingertips. Setting up our Canon camera on a tripod, we stepped in front of the pristine white backdrop. Then, using Canon's intuitive app on our iPhones, we became our own remote shutterbugs.

It was a seamless process. We meticulously dialed in the perfect settings – aperture, shutter speed, ISO – just as we would for any client. With the app, we had a live view, allowing us to fine-tune our positions and expressions. A simple tap on our phone screen, and click – another frame captured.

Working together, offering feedback, and reviewing the images in real-time on the app allowed us to achieve exactly the look we were after. It was empowering to realize we could create professional-quality images of ourselves, on our own terms and timeline.

Lasting Results from a Simple Setup

And you know what? Those self-made portraits are still serving us incredibly well today. They feel authentic to who we are and the collaborative spirit of our business.

So, if you've ever considered updating your professional image or simply want to capture a great self-portrait, know that it's absolutely achievable with a little know-how and the right tools. You don't always need to rely on external help. Sometimes, the best team is the one you already have – or even just yourself and a reliable tripod!
